Abstract
650,864. Walk type agricultural tractors. ROTARY HOES, Ltd. Oct. 28, 1948, No. 27974. [Classes 79 (i), 79 (ii), 79 (iii), 79 (iv) and 79 (v)] [Also in Groups I and XXIV] In a walk-type tractor for mounting a cultivator tool and having a single traction cylinder supported between frame side members which carry a pair of guiding handle-bars, one of the side members being tubular to form a casing for an engine driven shaft and drive gearing which has a detachable connection with the cylinder and a part of the other side member is detachable to allow the cylinder to be axially removed and disconnected from the gearing. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the tractor frame comprises the tubular member 21 and the other side member 22 interconnected by a U member 23, the member 22 being detachably connected at 47, 48. Mounted on the member 23 is the engine 24, and its accessories. The engine drives through a belt and pulleys the driving shaft 29, Fig. 4, connected by a worm and worm wheel 49, 50, and a two speed gear in a casing 51 to the traction cylinder 20. Detachably connected to the member 21 is an extension 84 and to the member 22 an extension 137, the extensions 84, 137 carrying a rotary hoeing attachment which may be replaced by a lawn mower or a rotary brush. The attachment is driven from the shaft 29 through a dog clutch 102, 103 a shaft 33, a worm 90 and a worm wheel 89. The engine 24. Fig. 9, is mounted on the front of the member 23 and a cross member 105 by a pair of plates 107 secured at each side of the engine. The plates 107 are pivotally connected to links 106 pivoted to the members 23, 105 so that the engine can be moved transversely in the tractor to alter the tension of the driving belt 27 between the engine and the shaft 29. The rear one of the right hand pair of the plates 107 in Fig. 9 carries a brake block 118, which, when the drive to the shaft 29 is disengaged, engages a pulley 28 on the shaft 29. The engine is urged to the right in Fig. 9 by a spring 117, Fig. 10, secured to one of the plates 107. The drive to the shaft 29 is effected by means of a crank member 110 rotatably mounted in lugs 109 on one plate 107, the ends of the member 110 being connected to a reciprocating operating rod (not shown) and to a link 114 respectively. The link 114 is connected to the frame member 23 by a chamfered nut 116. The cylinder 20, Figs. 3 and 6, carries a sleeve 76 surrounding a tube 79 and a stationary axle 73, the latter being secured by nuts 74, 75 to the frame members, slackening of the nuts 47, 48, 75 facilitating removal of the cylinder. The sleeve 76 has a dog toothed engagement at 77 with a gear wheel 56 within the casing arranged in a depression in the end of the cylinder 20. The speeds of the gear box are changed by a spindle 66 being rotated by an arm 67. The arm 67 and an arm 34, Fig. 1, controlling the dog clutch 102, 103 are operated through push-pull rods 71, 35 by radial arms 135. The arms 135 are carried by the handle-bars 36 secured to platforms 37, 38, Fig. 2, on the frame members 22, 21. The rods 35, 71 carry fingers which are normally retained in notches in gates by springs, the radial arms being rotated to release the fingers from the notches.
