[Also in Group XXIV] A drive transmission for the cutter 22 and reel 7 of a reaping machine wherein the position of the reel shaft 6 is adjustable, is characterised in that the drive to the reel is from a crank shaft 2 mounted in the machine frame, a crank on the shaft 2 serving to drive the cutter 22, and an infinitely variable gear device forms part of the drive to the reel. A carrier for the reel 7 is mounted on the shaft 2 and comprises two parts, one at each end of the shaft, each part having an arm 3 pivotally mounted on the shaft 2 and connected by a pivot shaft 4 to an arm 5 rotatably carrying the shaft 6. A lockable lever and telescopic rod, Fig. 1 (not shown) enable the position of arms 3 and 5, respectively to be adjusted. Drive to the reel is through a divided variable V-pulley 10 rotatable with the shaft 2, a V-belt 12, a second variable pulley 11 mounted rotatably on the shaft 4, a V-pulley 15 similarly mounted, a V-belt 16, and a V- pulley 17 fixed to an end of the reel shaft 6. One half 13 of the pulley 10 is axially displaceable to interrupt the drive to the reel. The pulley 11 has an internal gear 18 meshing with planetary gear wheels 19 mounted rotatably on the pulley 15, the gear wheels 19 also being in mesh with a gear 20 fixed on the shaft 4.
