Abstract

1,098,840. Tractor-mounted mowers. F. MORTL and K. MORTL. Dec. 23, 1965 [Dec. 23, 1964; April 6, 1965], No.. 54577/65. Heading A1F. A mowing machine wherein the cutter is driven by a flywheel 3 and pitman 4 comprises an arm 6 pivotally connected at 7 and 8 respectively to a tractor and the cutter bar. The flywheel is mounted on the arm and is driven from a p.t.o. shaft 1 via a belt 2 and pulleys. The shaft of the flywheel is so arranged relative to the p.t.o. shaft that the belt will be slackened when the mowing machine is raised. In an alternative embodiment a centrally arranged p.t.o shaft drives via an endless belt an input shaft of a gear box mounted on an arm pivoted to the side of the tractor, the axis of the input shaft being substantially coaxial with the pivot axis of the arm. The input shaft drives through gearing a shaft having a flywheel mounted thereon.
