Abstract

1,201,938. Mowers. WOOD BROS. MFG. CO. 3 Oct., 1967 [12 Dec., 1966], No. 44872/67. Heading A1F. [Also in Division F2] A power drive for a mower having at least two frame-sections 13 and 15 hinged at 17 consists of a transmission shaft between gear boxes 41 and 45, having universal joints 49, 47 and telescoping sections 46 and 48 in the order shown, shaft 55 of the telescoping section 48 being slidable in sleeves 59 (Fig. 5, not shown) of the gearbox 45. In an example having three framesections, each shaft 55 is loaded with a compression spring enclosed in a hollow member 66 to maintain the joints 47 close to its respective hinge 16 or 17. Each frame-section can pivot relative to the others to fit the contour of the ground, and in the inoperative position, the side sections can be turned up by 90 degrees as shown. The height of the mower blades can be adjusted by an actuator 28 operating on the shaft 25. The apparatus is driven by the shaft 20 connected to the power take-off shaft of a tractor.
