699,754. Walk-type tractors. EMERY, A. F. Jan. 25, 1952 [Jan. 26, 1951], No. 1999/51. Classes 79 (i), 79 (ii) and 79 (v) A power driven, two-wheeled unit for agricultural implements comprises a body, reversible power transmission gearing housed in the body and incorporating a power take off shaft, a steering handle reversibly mounted on the body, an engine mounted on the body side of the wheel axis, means for detachably mounting an implement on the other side of the axis, and means for driving the implement from the shaft. As shown the tractor comprises the body 1 on one end of which is mounted the engine 4 for driving the wheels 3. The drive from the engine includes a chain transmission 5, a clutch and a shaft 7. The shaft 7 carries toothed wheels 8, 9 which can be shifted to engage with either of gears 10, 11 on a shaft 6 which carries a gear 12 meshing with a gear 14 on a shaft 13. The shaft 13 carries a slidable gear 16 which can either mesh directly with a gear 17 or indirectly through an idler wheel with a gear 18, the gear 17, 18 being mounted on the wheel axle 15. The shaft 6 functions as a power take-off the gear 10 being meshed with a gear on the implement drive, Fig. 2 (not shown), or the shaft 6 may carry a cam or pulley 26 for obtaining a reciprocating drive, a crank rod 27 being connected to the member 26 to reciprocate a cutter bar, Fig. 1. The body 1 is provided with a mounting bed 19 to which a flange 24 on the implement is secured to mount the implement. Pivoted to the top of the body 1 at 23 is a mounting bracket 20 for the handle 21, the bracket being pivotable about the pivot 23 to adjust the height of the handle and means being provided to secure the bracket in the desired position. The handle 21, which carries clutch and throttle controls, is connected to the bracket 20 by two bolts so that the handle can lie over the engine or over the implement and the handle carries a slot 22 so that the handle can be turned to an angle with the longitudinal axis of the tractor, the operator being then able to walk beside it. A trailer car can be fitted for the operator.
