Abstract
643,866. Concrete roof construction. BERK, F. V. July 3, 1947, No. 17527. [Class 20(iv)] A roof construction comprises a series of concrete girders 1 provided with reinforcements 5, 6 and having trough shaped walls fluted on the inside. The girders are supported on a ridge beam 2 and on the walls 3 of the building. The ends of concrete slabs 8 rest on the edges of the girders, the walls of these being cut away to form recesses 8a. The longitudinal side edges of the slabs 8 are sloped and fluted providing V-shaped recesses to contain metal reinforcing rods 11 with hooked shaped ends 12 extending into the trough 4. Grouting is filled into the recesses 10 and troughs 4 so that a series of T-shaped units 13 are formed integrally connected to the slabs and girders. Girders are secured at the roof ridge by a reinforcing rod 11a. In the case of a steeply pitched roof the girders are arranged horizontally as purlins, the concrete slabs extending spanwise of the roof with ends resting on the purlins which have walls of different height to conform with the slope of the roof. A metal cap with a projection which is embedded in the grouting before it is set is preferably used. Thermal insulating plaster boards may be nailed by means of a dowel batten 21 to the girders.
