Abstract

573,541. Roofing tiles; roofs. HILLS PATENT GLAZING CO., Ltd. and HINCCHLIFFE, E. D. Oct. 26, 1943, No. 17591. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A roofing tile, preferably formed of reinforced concrete or a cement composition, is provided at its side edges with depending flanges 2, which taper as shown and terminate short of the lower end of the tile. The flanges are designed to rest upon the rafters of a roof structure, which are provided with integral or attached channels 7 wide enough to receive the flanges of two adjacent tiles. The channels are lined at the bottom with a resilient, waterproof material 9 and are rebated at 8 to provide gutters for any water which seeps between the tiles. The upper and lower ends of the tiles have respectively upturned and downturned ribs 3, 4 which define cavities 5 where the tiles overlap. The tiles are fluted on their upper surface and each tile spans the distance between two adjacent rafters. The Provisional Specification describes rafters of H-section or built up from parallel strips braced by one or more sinuous rods or bars.
