[Class 114] [Also in Group XXIX] The pitch of a variable-pitch propeller is adjusted by the fluid-operated piston S, the fluid flow to which is controlled by the valve E in accordance with the speed setting given to it by the hand lever A and by the piston G exposed to the air speed pressure acting against a spring D. If control of the pitch without reference to air speed is required the lever A is moved to its limiting position and pitch is then controlled by valve J moved by lever U.
