585,001. Fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol systems. ESCHER WYSS MASCHINENFABRIKEN AKT.-GES. Nov. 30, 1944, No. 23938. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1943. [Class 135] In a hydraulically-actuated variable-pitch propeller, the pressure liquid applied to the mechanism to effect a change of pitch is also applied to a restoring device for the controlling mechanism. In an embodiment, a pump 5 with a relief valve 6 supplies pressure liquid through a control valve 32 to a servo-piston 31 connected to the variable-pitch blades 7 of the propeller. Valve 32 is actuated by a centrifugal governor 1 and is provided with an air dashpot 30, the latter comprising a spring-suspended piston 11 working in a cylinder of which the two ends are connected by throttled passage 15. Tappings of the pressure liquid, after having passed the control valve, are led through pipes 12, 13 to opposite ends of the valve piston to provide a follow-up or restoring movement. Throttles 35, 36 permit adjustment of the speed of the follow-up action. In modifications, the follow-up is obtained by applying the tappedoff pressure fluids to the two ends of piston 11. Where the motive fluid is at very high pressures, pipes 12, 13 are interconnected by a throttled passage to allow of proportional but reduced pressures being applied to piston 11.
