Abstract
597,908. Fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol of variable-pitch propellers. DIPROSE, K. V. July 25, 1945, No. 19028. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] A speed governor for a variable-pitch screw propeller comprises weighted bell-crank levers 15 that are pivoted to a casing 24 and engage a collar 18 loaded by a spring 14. Movements of the weights adjust a control valve 29, 30 to connect a pipe 35 to exhaust 32 or pressure supply 34 ; the pipe 35 is connected to the mechanism for varying the pitch of the propeller. Acceleration or deceleration causes the casing 24 to rotate against the action of the spring 47 and rotate a sleeve 39 that has ports 45, 46 that co-operate with ports 43, 44 in a cylinder 36 on either side of a piston 37 mounted on the same rod as the valve 29, 30. In the normal position, pressure fluid supplied through port 40 exhausts equally through the ports 43, 44, but rotation of the sleeve 39 causes one port opening to be reduced and the other increased to cause a pressure to act on the piston 37 to adjust the valve 29, 30.
