Abstract
642,006. Brush gear for dynamo-electric machines. INGERSOLL-RAND CO. Feb. 24, 1948, No. 5484. Convention date, April 26, 1947. [Class 35] The brush holders of a reversing commutator motor carry switch contacts so that rocking them simultaneously reverses their connections and places them in the correct position for commutation for the particular direction of running. The brush holders 30 are mounted on an insulating carrier 22 having arcuate slots 23 by means of which it is rotatably carried on flanged insulating bushings 24, 26 secured by bolts 27 to the machine frame 15. The brushholders 30 are formed with integral contact wings 33 which engage either of a pair of stationary contacts 35 secured by the bolts 27. Rotation of the end-cover 40 also turns the brush carrier 22 by means of inter-engaging lugs 45, 46, the end cover being indexed by sprung balls 50 (shown dotted in Fig. 1). The brush-holder 30 and switch blades 33 have a portion (not shown) bent back over the carrier 22 and secured by a screw which also secures the cap 59 and a connector lead.
