Abstract

1406488 Dynamoelectric machines SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 March 1973 [14 Feb 1972] 6815/72 Heading H2A In an electric motor, a plurality of brushes 30 (only one shown) are mounted in a set of recesses 29 in a moulded plastics housing end cover 19, and are pressed against a commutator 11 by helical springs 34, each recess 29 being such as to extend right through the cover 19, but being closed on the outside by a leg portion 40 of an L-shaped electrical connector member 32 in engagement with a brush terminal 33. The main housing section is formed by a cylinder of magnetizable material 21 and a stamped mild steel end-plate 18. Two sintered bearings 16, 17 are acted on by two leaf-springs 37, 27, and the rotor shaft 12 which supports an armature 10 on the interior of a set of stator magnets 22 carries splines 13 for biting into both a plastics coating of the armature and also a plastics sleeve 15 of the commutator 11.
