Abstract

1407631 Dynamo-electric machines LUCAS ELCTRICAL CO Ltd 24 Jan 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 8937/72 Heading H2A In a dynamo electric machine, e.g. an I.C.E. starter motor, which includes an end cap 17 closing one end of a tubular yoke 11 which supports internally, and completes a magnetic circuit between, a plurality of pole pieces 14, the end cap is formed from sheet metal, e.g. by deep drawing or stamping, and houses a brush assembly 19, and the yoke and end cap include overlapping regions 12, 18 so dimensioned that there is an interference fit therebetween. This dimensioning may be by making the inner diameter of the cap region 18 slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the yoke region 12; the fit may be achieved by either forcing or shrink fitting the end cap and yoke together, and reinforced by providing either screws or resistance welding therebetween. The brush assembly, which co-operates with a commutator or slip ring assembly, houses a rotor shaft bearing sleeve 21. Non-magnetic clips 16 secure a wave-wound field winding 15 to the pole-pieces 14 which have alternate flat and rounded ends.
