Abstract
590,149. Machines with permanent magnets. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and GRIFFITHS, L. April 16, 1945, No. 9435. [Class 35] A dynamo-electric machine for a motor vehicle has its stator housed on the crank-case and its rotor mounted on the crank or other shaft, a detachable cover having electrical connectors being provided for the stator housing. The rotary magnet system 2b is carried on a boss 2a (e.g. of aluminium) whilst the laminated stator comprises salient poles 5a carrying windings 5b having contact plates 5c. The cover 9, which may be of insulating material is secured by studs 10 which preferably also locate the stator within the housing 6. Springy metal brushes 8 contact the plates 5c when the cover is in position and a gland nut 12 seals the outgoing leads. The housing 6 may be integral with or fixed to the crank-case.
