Abstract

141,231. Shillito, B. J. June 5, 1919. Inductor machines; brush-holders; commutators.-In a direct-current dynamo-electric machine having a rotating field magnet 27 and a stationary closed-coil armature 1 connected to brushes 3 bearing on a rotary collector connected to slip-rings on which stationary brushes 10, 11 bear, the collector comprises two rings 20, 21 each formed integral with axial tongues 6 which are separated from each other by insulation 28, the whole presenting a smooth cylindrical surface. The main brushes 10, 11 may bear on the rings 20, 21 or the latter may be mechanically connected to slip-rings 26, the connector 22 also serving as a conductor. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the field-coil 30 is stationary. Each brush 3 is connected by a conductor 19 to its holder 12 which is secured to, but insulated from, the machine frame by insulated bolts 14. The armature lead 2 is connected to one of the bolts 14. The spring 15 which presses forward the brush 3 is secured at one end by a pin 16 fixed to the holder 12 by a bracket 17. Two collectors may be provided one at each end of the machine.
