Abstract

The DC powered motor or generator has a multipole rotor (1) on an magnetic shaft (2) within a stator (3) carried within a closed magnetic housing (4)' the shaft running in bearings (7) fitted within the end plates of the housing. The rotor poles are 'U' shaped with an energising winding over each leg' are evenly spaced over its circumference and are magnetically isolated from each other. The stator carries more poles than the rotor each spaced evenly over the rotor again magnetically isolated. The poles are dmountable and may be a high permeability low hysteresis loss ferrite or laminated silicon - iron. Interconnection and power supply connection of rotor and stator poles is via three slip rings at one end of the shaft and a commutator at the remaining end.
