Abstract
641,979. Earrings. SHILLER, A. J. Sept. 4, 1947, No. 24448 [Class 43] An earring comprises an ear-gripping member provided with means which engage detachably in the eye of a shanked button. One arm 12, Fig. 3, of a U-shaped gripping member 6 carries a clamping screw 14, the other arm 11 carrying a plate 13 provided with a central opening traversed by a spring 15 which lies parallel with the arm 11 and is secured at 16 to the bight of the U. The spring 15 is threaded through the eye 10 of a shanked button 5, the shank 9 being received in the opening in the plate 13, and the spring lying in grooves in said plate. In a modification, Fig. 7, the plate 13, which is solid; has pivotally secured to it on a common pin X two oblong plates 18, 19, the outer long sides of which have flanges 23 provided with inwardly extending projections 24 to engage in the eye of a shanked button. In another construction, Fig. 9, the eargripping member has a hinged plate 30 through an aperture 32 in which the button shank 9 projects to be secured by a transverse cotter pin 33. The plate 30 is snapped down and held in that position by a blade spring 28 acting on a lug 31 projecting at right angles from the plate 30.
