Abstract

641,466. Hollow rollers. WILSDON, B. H., MARTIN, A. J. P., and THOMPSON, O. N. Sept. 16, 1946, No. 27670. [Class 34(i)] [Also in Groups II, XVI and XXIX] The pressure about the line of contact of a pair of hard non-flexible rollers 4 is controlled by the application of fluid pressure either directly to a chamber formed by a central beam 6 and the internal surface 7 of the roller 4 or indirectly through the medium of pistons 9 bearing on the internal surface 7 and operating in cylinders 10 formed in the beam 6 and connected to a common supply line or forming a self-contained system in which pressure is produced by pressure on the ends of the beams. The beams 6 are provided with collars 14 which support roller bearings 16 which carry gear wheels 15 secured to the rollers 4. A clearance 18 between the collar 14 on the lower beam permits relative adjustment between the rollers.
