Abstract
777,620. Thrust bearings. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. March 7, 1955 [March 9, 1954], No. 6660/55. Class 12 (1). In hydrostatic gearing, an axial thrust bearing for a shaft 11 comprises ball bearings 15, 17 and associated piston members 20, 22 through which the bearings are supported by a fluid under pressure supplied to the space 29 within a housing 28, the fluid being the working medium of the gearing. If the pistons have the same effective annular area of cross-section uniform distribution of the axial thrust between the bearings is ensured. The pressure medium is preferably oil supplied by a pump 31. In a modification, shown in Figs. 2 and 3, each bearing ring has three extensions which at their extremities bear against individual pistons located in a housing and supported by fluid under pressure. The pistons are arranged in a circle, as shown in Fig. 3, pistons 132a, b, c supporting bearings 115, pistons 133a, b, c supporting bearing 116 and pistons 134a, b, c supporting bearing 117.
