Abstract

954,757. Bearings. ESCHER WYSS A.G. March 11, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 9553/63. Heading F2A. The journal 1 of a rotary tube mill is mounted in the liner 2 of a bearing bush 3 which is inserted in an annular segment 4 connected to a housing 6 having a spherical surface 7 supported on a complementary surface of a fixed bracket 9 so that the housing 6 adjusts itself about a centre O and can slide axially with respect thereto. In the liner 2 beneath the journal are three of more depressions 10-12, each supplied with lubricant from a separate pump, e.g. of the gear type, whereby the journal is hydrostatically mounted and lifted off the liner, a quantity of the lubricant returning to the pumps via the interior of the housing 6; at least two depressions are axially offset relative to each other. The inclination of the bush 3 in the bracket 9 is adjusted by two or more pistons 21, 22, each actuated by lubricant from a separate one of the pumps, and the rods 25, 26 of which abut the opposite sides of an extension 27 depending from the housing 6. The pistons may be replaced by diaphragmbellows or only one piston may be used, the opposite faces of which are acted on by the different lubricant pressures. Provision may be made for other lubrication of the journal should the pressure system fail. The pumps may be combined in a separate housing to form a unit driven by an electric motor the housing being flanged to the housing 6. The piston devices may be arranged in a rotatable bearing housing instead of the stationary bracket 9.
