640,864. Liquid-fuel supply to burners. WALLSEND SLIPWAY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and CORLETT, E. W. Sept. 16, 1948, No. 24336. [Class 75(i)] An oil supply control system for oil burning installations incorporates low pressure pumping means and high pressure pumping means arranged in hydraulic tandem, a heat exchanger intercalated between the high pressure and the low pressure pumping means, pipes by-passing the pumping means, pressure relief valves located in such by-pass pipes, and pressure control means to vary the pressure of oil delivered by the high pressure pumping means. The oil is supplied through an inlet pipe 6 to a low pressure pump 1 which feeds the fuel at low pressure to a preheater 3 and thence to the inlet of a high pressure pump 8. The latter supplies oil burning installations 10, 10<SP>1</SP> through pressure varying means 14, 14<SP>1</SP>, respectively. When the means 14, 14<SP>1</SP> are adjusted so that the burners 10, 10<SP>1</SP> consume less oil than can be supplied by the pump 8, the discharge pressure of the pump 8 rises and a pressure relief valve 13 in a byepass 12 opens to allow oil to escape to the inlet side of the pump 8. This results in an increase in pressure at the outlet side of the pump 1 causing a pressure relief valve 7 in a byepass 5 to open to allow fuel to escape to the inlet side of the pump 1.
