Abstract

753,910. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. YARROW & CO., Ltd. April 13, 1955 [April 22, 1954], No. 11720/54. Class 75(1). An oil supply system for spill burners 15 comprises a low pressure pump 1 delivering oil to heaters 6, a high pressure pump 13 delivering oil from the heaters to the burners and means for delivering the spilled oil from the burners into the oil line between the heaters and the low pressure pump 1. The spilled oil passes along a pipe 17 into a chamber 5 through which cold oil from the low pressure pump 1 passes to the heaters 6, the spilled oil being directed tangentially to the flow of cold oil by nozzles 19. The oil pressure at the inlet side of the high pressure pump is maintained constant by an arrangement comprising a by-pass pipe 20 connecting the inlet and discharge sides of the low pressure pump 1 and a diaphragm valve 21 which opens the by-pass when the pressure at the inlet side of the high pressure pump 13 exceeds a certain value. The inlet and discharge sides of each pump are connected through a pressure relief valve 25, An oil filter 12a is disposed between the heaters 6 and the high pressure pump 13. The output of the burners is controlled by a single valve 18 in the spill pipe 17. The heaters 6 comprise steam-heated heat exchangers and the supply of steam is controlled by a valve operated by a heat responsive device located either in the oil pipe leading from the heaters or in the oil pipe adjacent to the inlets to the burners.
