Abstract

640,780. Rubber soled footwear. ASHWORTH, R. Aug. 21, 1948, No. 22120. [Class 17(ii)] A sole 3 of expansible unvulcanized sponge rubber compound is attached to a welt, or lasted shoe upper component by stitches 4, staples or rivets. A last is then inserted in the shoe and' the sole is placed in a mould of the shape of the sole but providing room for the expansion of the sole on vulcanization, so that the stitches or other securing means become embedded in the sole. A layer 5 of harder wearing material may be placed in the mould before the sole is inserted.
