Abstract
A cathode of an electronic discharge device is coated with electron - emissive material from a suspension by the use of a centrifuge. The suspension may consist of a mixture of barium, strontium and calcium carbonates in a two per cent solution of nitrocellulose in amyl acetate. Tubular cathodes 7, surrounded with metallic mesh between the flanges 13, are shown in a centrifuge tube 14. Wooden plugs 16 prevent entry of the suspension into the inside of the cathode. The centrifuge is operated for 45 minutes, the clear liquid siphoned off and more suspension added up to the original level. It is stated that when operating the centrifuge to give 715 g. for 5 hours with emissive material of particle size 2 microns, the density of the coating was 1.64 grms. per c.c. Densities of 2.4 and 2.6 respectively were produced at a centrifuge speed giving 2250 g. for periods of 5 and 22 hours.
