Abstract

A hydrolysed colloid, serving as an adhesive layer between the permanent layer carrying the silver halide emulsion and a temporary antihalation or similar layer in a photographic film, is prepared by treating agar-agar, carrageen, lichen or psyllium-seed extract with an acid or enzyme and heating until the colloid is readily soluble in photographic baths and can be cast into a transparent, non-sticky mass. The acid used may be sulphuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic or propionic acid, while the enzymes may be pepsin, trypsin, pancreatin, rennim, pectinase or diacstase. Specification 632,402, [Group XX], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the anti-halation layer itself may be constituted by the colloid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
