379,984. Photographic films. KODAK, Ltd., Kingsway, London.-Assignees of Young, A. A. ; Kodak Park, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 16, 1932, No. 4558. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1931. [Class 98 (ii).] A photographic film, of the kind in which the support is furnished with a backing layer containing one or more dyes to reduce or eliminate halation, comprises a support 1 having on one side a sensitive emulsion layer 2 and on the other side an anti-halation backing comprising wax and a dye. The layer 3 may be applied directly to the support or to an intermediate layer 4 of a substance which is readily dissolved or disintegrated by the developing bath, e.g. casein, gum arabic. glutenin, gliadin, albumin, and alkali-soluble cellulose derivatives such as an aceto-lactate or aceto-tartrate. More than one dye may be incorporated in the layer 3 ; alternatively, a dye or dyes may be added to the soluble layer 4, or both layers may be dyed, e.g. with complementary dyes. Examples are given of wax solutions for forming the layer 3, including carnauba wax and tri-chlor-naphthalene.
