Abstract
640,013. Load-handling machines. TAYLOR & SONS (MANCHESTER), Ltd., F., and TAYLOR, W. June 4, 1947, No. 14735. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXI] An attachment for the jib of a crane, such for example as described in Specification 618,793, for converting the crane into an excavating or levelling machine comprises a tapered sleeve B which fits over the end of the jib after the lifting hook has been removed and is held thereon by a pin or bar b passing through the sleeve and jib, and a scoop or bucket D pivotally mounted on links C supported by a bar B<1> carried by the sleeve, a hook d<1> on the scoop or bucket being engaged by a spring-controlled catch E on the sleeve to retain the scoop or bucket in its load-supporting position. The catch E may be operated to allow the scoop to pivot to a discharge position by a chain or it may be automatically tripped when the jib has been raised to a predetermined height. A spring may be provided to move the scoop when the catch E is released. The Provisional Specification describes also an arrangement in which a spring attached to the jib and the scoop returns the scoop after it has been tipped to its discharge position.
