Abstract

639,981. Locating bodies. STEVENS, A. H. (Leland Stanford Junior University, Board of Trustees of). May 13, 1942, No. 6527. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 14, 1946.] [Class 37] [Also in Groups XXXVIII, XL (a) and XL (c)] An oscillator - detector for detecting moving objects such as burglars has four resonators 76, 77, 78, 79, arranged in cascade as a velocity-modulated electron discharge tube amplifier (see Group XL (a)). The output resonator has a radiating aperture 81, and the input resonator a receiving aperture 82, and the device is mounted in the corner of a room 94 with a screen 83 shutting off the direct path between the apertures. Normally the device is non-oscillating; if regeneration is introduced for greater sensitivity, it is insufficient by itself to cause oscillation. The advent of an object introduces a feed-back path which, owing to the high amplification, is sufficient to cause the device to break into oscillation, operating alarm 96.
