[Class 64(i)] Water heating apparatus in which the opening of a water draw-off point brings the heating medium into operation to heat water as it flows from a cold supply conduit through the heater to the draw-off point is characterized by a water re-circulating connection 21 between the water inlet and outlet pipes of the apparatus, means responsive to the temperature of the water in the outlet pipe and controlling a vaive 24 in such a manner as to permit water to flow from the outlet side through the re-circulation connection 21 to the inlet side of the apparatus until a pre-determined water temperature is reached and to prevent flow through the re-circulating connection thereafter. The re-circulation connection comprises a pipe 21 provided at a point near the draw-off end of the hot water delivery pipe 6 and the supply pipe 1, the connection with the latter being effected at a suction port 22 at the throat of a Venturi tube 23 in the pipe 1. The temperature responsive device which controls the valve 24, comprises an ether-filled deformable capsule 25, tube 26 and bulb 27, the bulb being located in the hot water delivery pipe 6 in the region of the heater jacket 2. When the outlet 7 is opened, water commences to flow through the apparatus, the gas valves being opened automatically by unbalanced pressures in pipes 14, 15 acting on a diaphragm 11. The valve 24 remains open and a proportion of the water flowing through the heater is re-circulated until the required delivery temperature is reached when the valve 24 is closed by the thermostat, all the heated water being thereafter delivered to the draw-off point 7. According to the Provisional Specification the temperature responsive device may comprise an ammonia filled capsule.
