Abstract

639,809. Base plates for tubular scaffolding. BURTON, J. Jan. 8, 1948, No. 567. [Class 20 (ii)] A base plate 10, is pivotally secured at 14 to a spigot 16 engaging rotatably and being secured within the end 18 of a tubular scaffolding member by means of a radial set screw 21 which engages a circumferential groove 20 in the spigot 16 ; the arrangement being such that under load the spigot bears directly on the plate 10. Spaced lugs 11 welded to the plate 10 are formed with vertically elongated holes 12 receiving a pivot pin 13 passing through the lower end of the spigot 16 which is formed with a peripheral flange 19 and has a rounded end 15 allowing free angular movement of the spigot in relation to the plate. The elongated holes 12 allow the end 15 under load to bear directly on the plate 10. The lugs 11 may be formed integral with the plate from bent-up tongues. Instead of providing elongated holes 12 in the lugs 11, such holes may be formed in the spigot. Specification 645,890 is referred to.
