Abstract

639,707. Hammers. STEPHENS. W. R., and STEPHENS BELTING CO., Ltd., (trading as THOR HAMMER CO.). April 29, 1948, No. 11746. [Class 61 (ii)] A cylindrical striking piece d at one or each end of a hammer head a is secured in a shallow socket c having at least one longitudinal slot e of sufficient width to allow a tool such as a screw-driver to be inserted for removing the striking piece. In a modification, a disc f is provided at the bottom of the socket, the disc having a bevelled edge and the slots terminating a short distance from the base of the socket. A number of'spikes g may be provided on the disc for retaining the striking piece. In another modification, spikes integral with the base of the socket are provided. Other modifications include a socket having a screwthreaded or grooved inner surface and a slightly resilient steel hammer head having a lip at the outer end of the socket adapted to engage a groove in the striking piece.
