Abstract

639,674. Microscopic apparatus. MONCHABLON, J. Aug. 18, 1947, No. 22907. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1940. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] A micromanipulator as used in histology, bacteriology, &c. for examining specimens under a microscope, comprises a rod 8 carrying a needle 25 which is floatingly mounted by springs 22, 23 and flexible elements 22a, 23a for movement in any direction by means of a system of cords 7, 11 and 19. The cord 7 is wound round a spindle 6 secured to a block 4 pivoted in a fixed bearing 3 whilst the cord 11 is wound around a spindle 6a rotatable in the block 4 and connected to a rod 13. The rod 13 is linked to the control member 15, movement of which backwards and forwards and left to right produces corresponding but greatly reduced movements of the needle 25. This movement of member 15 is allowed by a flexible sleeve coupling 16 with a screw 17 which can also be rotated by the member 15 to operate an arm 18 carrying a nut 17a and to which is connected the other cord 19 which effects the up and down movement of the needle. Return springs 9 and 20 act against the pull of the cords and additional cords 7a and 11a are provided anchored to discs 5 and 10 on the spindles 6 and 6a respectively and adjustable by means of a pull member 26 to vary the degree of movement transmitted.
