573,948. Manipulating cables. HOWARD, A. C., and ROTARY HOES; Ltd. Sept. 23, 1943, No. 16062/45. Divided out of 570,755, [Group I]. [Class 78 (ii)] An electric cable for operating a mobile tool, such as a hoe, is stored at an intermediate position between the power plug and the tool on a drum 12 carried by a bracket 15 rotatable about a vertical axis 17 supported by a hook &c. 18. The cable 11 passes through the pivot 17 and also through the hollow shaft 13 of the drum before passing through a hole in the outer flange to the winding surface of the drum. In winding off the drum the cable passes through an elongated loop guide 24. A spring 20 surrounds the shaft 13 and tends to turn the drum to wind up the cable thereon. Before putting the cable on the drum the part thereof extending through the shaft 13 is twisted so that in the first half of the unwinding this twist will become reduced and in the second half a reverse twist will be imparted.
