Abstract

607,529. Erecting cables. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and HARDING, J. R. Feb. 7, 1946, No. 3872. [Class 36] The erection of an overhead electric cable is carried out by means of a spinner to which a cable guide is attached so that the weight of the cable bears on the running wheels of the spinner. The cable 1 is led into the proximity of the catenary wire 2 by means of a guide 3. The carriage is provided with supporting wheels or rollers 13 which rest on the catenary wire 2. Mounted on the rear roller 13 is a bevel-wheel 28 engaging a bevel pinion 29 which is supported from the carriage. A spurwheel 32 is mounted on the spindle 30 of the bevel pinion 29 and meshes with teeth 33 which are formed on a cylindrical extension 34 of the flat ring 35. The binding wire 38 is carried on a spool 37, mounted on the ring 35. On moving the carriage to the right, the ring 35 rotates, causing the wire 38 to form an open helix around the cable 1 and the catenary wire 2. At the end of the span of the catenary wire 2, the binding wire 38 is cut and secured and the weight of the cable 1 and guide 3 is transferred to the next span. A rod is inserted through corresponding holes 55 in plates 52 and the guide 3 detached from the carriage by removal of pins 24, 25 and hauled to the next span. The spinner is transferred to the next span and the guide re-attached. Portions of the apparatus are removable to enable it to be placed in position.
