Abstract

1,123,424. Stranding machines. TYNE WIRE ROPES Ltd. 27 Sept, 1966 [28 July, 1965], No. 32199/65. Heading DIT. A stranding machine has its shaft in two parts 100, 105 releasably coupled together by a muff coupling 103. The shaft part 105 carries a mandrel 109 on which are mounted a plurality of bobbins 115. Shaft part 100 is mounted in a wheel 72 rotatable in a support 12. Shaft part 105 is mounted in a wheel 137 rotatable in a support 13 and coupled thereto by means of a trunnion pin 132, Fig. 3. To remove the mandrel 109 with the bobbins thereon the shaft 105 is rotated until the trunnion, pin 132 is vertical, a trolley is positioned below the mandrel 109 and caused to support the mandrel, the muff coupling 103 is released, and the trolley is then moved to cause the shaft 105 to swing in a horizontal plane about the vertical. The trolley is then withdrawn with the mandrel on it and the shaft is left supported in the manner of a cantilever.
