Abstract
708,227. Erecting cables. FOMBOURZE, E. J. Sept. 26, 1952 [Oct. 9, 1951; Sept. 12, 1952], No. 24162/52. Class 36. In a cable lashing machine comprising a trolley which moves along a supporting strand 11 8, an annular toothed track or spur wheel 50 encircling the trolley and having a gap 51 for applying the trolley to the strand, a spinning head 6 3 , 6 4 having a gap 6 5 which may register with the gap 51, a driving pinion 7 1 responsive to the withdrawal of lashing wire I I from the spinning head, and gearing between the spur wheel 50 and the driving pinion 71, the gearing comprises two pinion gears 120, 121 (Fig. 11) which mesh with the spur wheel on the trolley and with the driving pinion 71 and are spaced from each other so that one meshes with the spur wheel 50 when the other is in front of the gap 51. The trolley comprises a trough carrying a pulley 2 at the front (Fig. 2) and a pulley 4 at the rear (Fig. 6). Reverse movement of the trolley is prevented by a ratchet device 6 on pulley 2. The front of the trolley also carries a yoke 9 and pulley 10, one arm 12 of the yoke being movable about axle 3 when not locked by nut 13. A pulley 27 is carried between the sides of yoke 9, the axle 26 thereof being pivoted at one end to bracket 22 and releasably secured at the other end in one of the notches 14, 15, 16 by nut 28. The rear end of the trolley carries two members 30 each having a slot 31. A yoke 32 movable about axle 5 carries a pulley 33. One side of the yoke is independently movable about axle 5 and is notched at either end so that it can be locked by using nuts 36, 39. The trough I is welded to a substantially conical member 44, to the base of which the radially slotted track 50 is secured. Both faces of this track carry rollers 52-62. The slotted spinning head comprises two parallel plates 63, 64, one either side of track 50 and having at the centre a circular opening, the periphery of which engages the rollers 52-62. The spinning head is driven by means of the two pinions 120, 121 (Fig. II) arranged so that at any instant at least one of them meshes with the sprocket 50. In use, the pulley 27, arm 12 and yoke 32 are moved to the open position and gap 65 brought opposite to gap 51. The machine is then positioned with pulleys 2 and 4 resting on the supporting strand 118. The cable 119 is introduced through gaps 51 and 65 and rests on pulleys 10 and 33. The arm 12, pulley 27 and yoke 32 are closed, pulley 27 then lying transversely beneath the strand 118. The lashing wire 111 is carried by a reel mounted on plate 6 3 and is led over a stretching guide 110, pulley 80, pulley 96 and through apertures 114 in the plates 63, 64, the end being then attached to a pole. The machine is drawn forward by means of a rope 117, thus withdrawing the lashing wire. The pulley 80 is mounted on the same axle as pinion 71, so rotation of the pulley by the lashing wire causes rotation of the pinion which drives pinions 120, 121 along the teeth of the spur wheel 50. The plates 63, 64 thus rotate about the strand 118 and cable 119, causing the wire 111 to describe a helix therearound. Specifications 607,529 and 659,957 and U.S.A. Specification 2,295,749 are referred to.
