[Also in Group XXIX] A device for operating a gas valve 19, e.g. for controlling the addition of chlorine to water, comprises a rod 1, axially displaceable, e.g. by an electric motor rotatable in opposite directions, a first order lever with a long arm 3 acted on by the rod and a short arm coupled, by a variable connection 6 for altering the leverage, with the free end of a second order lever 8, longer than the arm 3, which effects movement of the valve from a point 13 near its pivot 9 and is acted on by a force, e.g. the weight 12, to secure engagement between the rod and arm 3. The link has pinions engaging grooves 5<SP>1</SP>, 7', respectively in lever slots 5, 7. A ball connection 14 to the valve at the point 13 may be replaced by a roller.
