770,371. Fishing rods. MEYER, K. April 6. 1955 [April 15, 1954], No. 10148/55. Class 48 A fishing rod comprises a handle 1 having mounted on the end thereof as by a ferrule 2, a line reel 4 with its axis perpendicular to the axis of the handle, and also having a thumbpressed brake releasing device, as the lever 5, the rod being hinged to the reel bearing plate 3 so that when in use it is secured to the plate with its axis parallel to that of the handle 1, as by a sleeve 15 passing over the rod and plate extension 16 and being secured to the plate as by a locking screw 17, and the rod when not in use being turned about its hinge 11 through 180 degrees to lie parallel with the handle axis. The rod is preferably extensible and consists of a parallel portion 18 slidable relative to the base portion 14 and guided by sleeves 19, 20 on the lower and upper ends of the portions 18, 14 respectively. These rod portions have line guiding means 21, 22 at their upper ends.
