A fishing rod attachment for assisting casting with a stationary spool reel comprises a clamp 2 for securing the attachment to a rod and a line guide finger 4 mounted on the clamp for pivotal movement with a manual lever 6. After removal of the reel pick-up the line is passed over finger 4 which is pivotally controlled by lever 6 to release the line on casting.
