Abstract

639,591. Transformers and inductances. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 8, 1947, No. 24654. [Class 38 (ii)] An inductive electrical winding comprises a flat insulating disc A, of impregnated paper, fabric or plastic material, with a plurality of uniplanar of conducting metallic track B printed or deposited thereon and at the centre a hole D provided for the insertion of a magnetic core. One end of the track B terminates radially on a tag C, the other end in a raised contact portion E. The tag C is bent over as at G (Fig. 3) so that when a number of discs with metallic tracks and insulating discs are assembled to form an inductance the outer end of the conductor of the first disc makes contact through a hole in the insulating disc with the inner end of the conductor of the next disc to form a continuous winding. The stack of discs is then heat and pressure moulded to a central form and the central hole may accommodate a magnetic core. Various arrangements of sets of discs and wiring therebetween may be used to form a transformer. An alternative embodiment shows a winding unit in which a narrow strip of insulating material has a metallic conductor deposited or printed along one side of it and then wound into a tight spiral on a mandrel so that a hole is formed which may house a magnetic core.
