Abstract
639,386. Shears. MAREK, A. J., and BROWNE, H. H. July 28, 1948, No. 20113. [Class 30] [Also in Group XXIII] Secateurs or like cutting appliances comprise separately formed blades and handles all pivoted about a single axis, each blade interlocking with its associated handle, to move as a single entity about the axis under the control of a spring directly engaging the blades and urging their cutting edges apart. As shown, the blades 10, 11, are perforated to receive a bush 14 through which passes a pivot bolt 19 which also passes through opposing portions 17, 18 of each of the channel-section handles 12, 13. The base of each channel section interlocks with the cage 16 and tongue 20 formed on each blade. A spring 21 has end loops 25 which engage in recesses 24 in the blades and is maintained in the plane of the blades by the portions 17, 18 of the handles. Perforations 26 are provided for wirecutting and in assembly of the secateurs receive a temporary retaining pin. A releasable locking device is provided.
