Abstract

638,756. Projectiles. ZBROJOVKA BRNO, NARODNI PODNIK, and KYNCL, J. July 14, 1947, No. 18652. Convention date, July 15, 1946. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to projectiles of the kind comprising a piercing core 2 and a jacket 1 of ductile material, the jacket consisting of a front part joined by a short conical part to a rear guiding part which is deformed as the projectile passes through a barrel having a convergent bore. According to the invention, the core is centred by the engagement of its rear conical part with a ductile closure 3 which, during the deformation of the projectile to the reduced calibre, is deformed and slides backwards from the initial position shown in Fig. 2a to that shown in Fig. 2b. The projectile shown has a piece 4 of light metal between the noses of the cap and core, and the conical rear end of the core projects through an aperture in the closure. In a modification, Figs. 1a and 1b (not shown), the closure 3 is not apertured but is shaped to receive the rear end of the core. In both constructions the core is centred in a short cylindrical section surface v of the jacket. Specification 592,538 is referred to.
