638,696. Gas turbines. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Jan. 29, 1948, No. 2689. [Class 110(iii)] A compressor-turbine plant 1, 2 working with air in a closed circuit has the minimum pressure in the circuit never greater than atmospheric and the maximum pressure never less than atmospheric. Variations in the mass-flow, to meet variations in load, are effected by evacuating air to atmosphere downstream from the compressor 2 or admitting atmospheric air upstream from the compressor. A speedgovernor 12 controls servo-motors 10, 11 which operate air outlet and inlet valves 8 and 9. The fuel supply to the heating chamber 6 is regulated by a thermostat 13, 14, and the governor 12 has an over-riding control so that, when the valve 9 is opened to admit more air to the circuit, the gas temperature is temporarily increased.
