Abstract
638,474. Slicing vegetables. SCHAPIRO, H. May 18, 1948, No. 13471. [Class 5 (i)] [Also in Group VI] A combined food slicing and shredding or grating device has two parallel spaced arms 17 with horizontal portions 17a and downwardly inclined portions 17b between which are mounted a grater platform 34, and to the horizontal arms 17a are pivoted at 20 a pair of legs 16 projecting above and below the arms 17a and carrying at the upper end a slicing knife 26. The downward parts 16b of the legs form a brace for the inclined arm portions 17b. The grater platform 34 is smooth on one side so that food may be slid against the knife. The thickness of the slices is adjusted by the engagement of side rods 21 pivoted at 22 at the ends of the arms 17b into one of several holes 24 in the legs 16b so as to raise or lower the knife. A rod 18 extends between the pivots 20. The knife 26 has end projections which pass through slots in the upper legs 16 and are deformed to lock the knife in position. To form a grater, the side rods 21 are disengaged, and the arms 16 swung through a semi-circle. The rods 21 are then engaged in holes 25 in the legs 16b so as to expose the grater surface 33 of the platform 34.
