Abstract

637,547. Sliding windows. BECKETT, LAYCOCK & WATKINSON, Ltd., and PERNETTA, C. Aug. 11, 1947, No. 22309. [Class 20 (iii)] A window comprising a droplight which slides vertically from an upper closed position to a lower open position within a cavity in the surrounding structure, has a gutter, mounted in the cavity near the lower edge of the droplight when closed and provided with a hinged or flexible strip on one edge to engage the surface of the droplight when lowered, and with a drain leading to the outside of the surrounding structure. As shown the gutter 14, drained by a series of holes 15, has a strip 18 of rubber, polyvinyl chloride &c. secured thereto which presses against the external surface of the droplight 10; if the strip 18 is so dimensioned that the lower edge of the droplight rises above it in the closed position, a further flexible strip 19 may be provided on this lower edge to overhang the gutter; the strip 19 may be spaced slightly below the lower edge of the droplight to allow condensation from the inner surface thereof to pass to the gutter. Spring-loaded hinged flaps may replace the strips 18 and 19. The droplight may be mounted on a spring-loaded lazytongs balance mechanism as described in Specification 631,430. According to the Provisional Specification, where the strip 19 is spaced from the lower edge of the droplight it may be secured to a metal angle section which serves to collect the condensation from the inside, and instead of the holes 15 a drain may be provided having at its lower end a movable part to allow access for clearing.
