[Class 20 (iii).] A sliding window of the kind which is opened by lowering the sash into a well in the window parapet, and which has a weather - excluding cover ledge secured rotatably to the frame, has means whereby the free edge of the ledge is guided and the ledge e actuated by fixed grooves, or by guide-bars. According to one construction, a hollow metal window frame a, Fig. 1, has a ledge b rotatably secured thereto. The ledge is guided by lateral rollers c which engage in vertical grooves d in the well e. The grooves d have a bent-over portion at the top, which portion is adapted, when the window is raised, to swing the ledge b into its outward operative position. In one modification, the cover ledge f, Fig. 3, is pivoted at g and is adapted to slide into a slot h in the frame a. In the raised position of the window the ledge is pushed outwards by a spring i, and on lowering the sash the lateral walls k of the ledge engage with guide-rods l and the ledge is pressed into the frame. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the free edge of the hinged ledge, such as that shown in Fig. 1, is connected by a spring to a bracket secured to the bottom of the frame.
