Abstract
637,379. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 17, 1947, No. 1628. Convention date, May 3, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron discharge device for highfrequency operation, the small spacing between the grid 1 and the cathode 15 is maintained by a cup-shaped member 9 formed of insulating material having a low expansion coefficient, such as ceramic or high-silica glass, which has a central column 13 with a flat surface carrying an electron-emissive coating 15 and a rim 11 having a peripheral surface 12 in contact with the lower washer 5 of two washers 4 and 5 which hold the grid 1 between them. The anode 23 is supported by a metallic flange element 25 which is sealed to a glass section 27, the latter being in turn sealed to an annular flange 28 which is bolted or otherwise suitably attached to grid washer 5.
