Abstract

Crystalline anhydrous strontium peroxide is obtained by heating hydrated strontium oxide and hydrogen peroxide at a temperature below the boiling point of water, e.g. 190 DEG F., to produce hydrated strontium peroxide, adding at least ten additional successive equal portions of hydrogen peroxide to ensure continuous evolution of oxygen and to dehydrate the peroxide and finally separating and drying the crystalline peroxide at a temperature of 212-260 DEG F., all the operations being effected in an atmosphere devoid of carbon dioxide.
