Abstract
637,047. Fairlead. EUGENE, Ltd., and LEATHER, G. B. Feb. 5, 1948, No. 3410. [Class 78 (v)] A fairlead comprises a pair of rollers 22 and 26 mounted with axes parallel in a frame provided with a gap 16 through which a cable can be passed breadthwise in between the rollers, a gate 28 for closing the gap, and a spring 23 tending to close the gate and also to urge the rollers to grip the rope therebetween. As shown, a cross-shaped piece of metal is bent to form the sidepieces 11, 12 of the frame and parts 17, 18 having holes 19 by which the frame can be attached to a hair-waving machine. In the frame are fixed pins 20 and 21, of which pin 20 is fixed and carries roller 22, and pin 21 carries spring 23, one end of the spring bearing against the frame and the other end of the spring being bent to form axis 27 carrying movable roller 26 and also gate 28. Gate 28 has slot 29 which engages with pin 20 so that roller 26 is thereby resiliently mounted against spring 23. When the gate 28 is opened to allow a cable to enter it pivots about axis 27 and then contacts pin 21 by means of a tail portion 30 and then pivots resiliently about this pin 21. Gate 28, rollers 22 and 26, and lining 31 are made of insulating material.
