Abstract

636,917. Oil burner sprayer. TURNER, M., and PARSONS & MARINE TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. Aug. 5, 1947, No. 21181. [Class 75 (i)] A control system for an oil burner sprayer incorporating a spring or like actuated valve which has oil under pressure applied to one side of a piston or diaphragm connected to the valve, oil being allowed to pass to the other side of the piston or diaphragm by a throttling passage, and so exert an equal or reduced pressure as determined by a remotely situated valve controlling the escape of oil. The burner sprayer comprises a cut-off valve a connected to a piston b which is provided with a throttle or bleed passage h and loaded by a spring d. Oil under pressure passes by a port e to exert a pressure on one face of piston b and passing through the bleed passage h also exerts a pressure on the rear face. If a remote valve g is shut the pressures on the opposite sides of the piston build up to a balance whereby the valve a is closed under the action of the compression spring d. When the remote valve g is opened the pressures are unbalanced and the piston b moves against the spring to open valve a. The control valve g may be operated by hand, oil relay or solenoid. The throttling passage may be provided by an increased clearance between the piston b and the cylinder wall.
